Today we are going to tell you about a very old Linux Distro. You must have heard this name i.e. Lindows. Someone tried to make a linux based Windows OS. It was a strategic step to cash the name of Microsoft’s popular OS. But due to the name, Microsoft has killed the OS by the legal systems.
Lindows Suffers a lot on it’s Name
Now after all the events, it came back again with a new name “Linspire”. After the legal actions, Lindows gone from the spotlight. Without a good name, it is not easy to come in the world of so many Linux distros. The project was re-started in 2008, but was shutdown by the then owner Mr. Xandros. Now in 2018, it came back as FreeSpire 3.0 & Linspire 7.0.
Then renamed as FreeSpire & Linspire
The development team of Opensystems LLC has announced the Freespire 3.0 & Linspire 7.0. There are many similarities in both of them i.e. kernel & common utilities. The user base is different in both.
FreeSpire is an open source distribution for general linux community where all the open source components are available & no proprietary applications. But this is not limitation, as users of FreeSpire can install anything they want to with the use of our software center and extensive repositories,they wish.
Linspire is a commercial release which is made by FreeSpire foundation. It has no proprietary software for a student, researchers and developers. It is made to utilize cloud based web applications & other legacy software from our Debian or Ubuntu’s repositories.
