West Bengal Civil Services pay-scale for officers, exam pattern, eligibility criteria and educational qualification

WBCS(West Bengal civil services) executive is a civil service of west Bengal. This is one of the most sought jobs in India. It offers a lucrative salary and a reputed position in the administrative department. Therefore, a lot of candidates all across the West Bengal apply for this post. Every year, the civil services commission arranges a civil services exam for the post of WBCS. Civil services exam is conducted in three phases- Preliminary, Mains and Personality test.

WBCS (West Bengal Civil Salary) Job Role | Work Nature

After clearing Preliminary and Mains exam, candidates have to go through an interview. After clearing the interview, candidates are selected for the post of west Bengal civil servants. These selected candidates are usually appointed as deputy collector or deputy magistrates. There is a probation period or two years and in those two years candidates have to go through mandatory administrative training at tutelage of Administrative Training Institute. Some of the candidates are also selected for the post of Block Development Officers (B.D.O).

How to Apply for WBCS

Candidates who wish to join WBCS can fill the application form online. Starting date of filling Application form is somewhere in November, this is for Preliminary exam. Mains exam is conducted in the month of July or August. After passing both Preliminary and Mains exam, candidates are required to appear for personal interview. The whole process from filling the application form to getting final selection takes around 2 years, and candidates have to be patient throughout the whole selection process.

WBCS Eligibility Criteria | Education Qualification

A candidate must have following qualification to apply for WBCS.

A candidate must be

  1. A citizen of India
  2. If other nation, a candidate must have a certificate of Indian nationality issued by Govt.

WBCS Age Limit

Minimum Age is 21 and maximum age is 36 as on 1st January of the year of examination. For the post of West Bengal Police Service, minimum age is 20 years and maximum age limit is 36 years as on 1st January of the year of examination. For Group D services and posts, minimum age is 21 years and maximum age is 39 years as on 1st January of the year of examination. Candidates whose age lies between 20 and 21 years, as on 1st January of the year of examination, can apply only of Group B only.

WBCS Age Relaxation

5 years age relaxation on upper age limit for S.C., S.T. and B.C. (Non-Creamy Layer) for West Bangal candidates. In the case of person with disabilities (PWD), the upper age limit is relaxed upto 45 years. S.C./S.T./B.C candidates of other States shall be treated as general candidates.

Minimum Educational Qualification

Candidates must possess a graduation degree from a recognized university and must have the ability to speak, write and read Bengali; not required for candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali.

Note:

  1. Candidates must have Good character and health, and must be in good state of mind to be appointed as WBCS servant.
  2. If a candidate is pursuing graduation and wants to apply for WBCS, he/she can apply for it. But the appointment will be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the government.
